What Is A Domain Name

A Domain Name is a meaningful and easy-to-remember identifier for addressing computers and information on the Internet. In most cases a Domain name symbolises a company name, trademark or product and typically end with a suffix that denotes the type or location of business (for instance, ".com" for commercial entity or ".com.au" for a commercial entity in Australia).

Your organisation can promote its presence on the Internet by registering a domain name. This is the Internet equivalent of registering a business name. The domain name is important because it forms part of your email and Web address and removes the reliance on having someone else's company name as part of your Internet Address (eg. fredsmith@YourISP.com.au).

A domain name by itself is not very useful, but when used in conjunction with our web hosting facilities you can send and receive email and access web pages using your domain name.

For example, Your-Company Pty Ltd with a domain name of your-company.com.au can set up email boxes such as info@your-company.com.au or accounts@your-company.com.au and have their web pages accessed via the address www.your-company.com.au.
