Owning a website in 3 simple steps
So you have decided that you want to build that website – maybe it’s because
you've started a business or simply wish to share pictures of your latest trip
overseas or the new addition to your family. This is going to be much easier
than you think - all you need is a few simple directions that you can follow
and you will soon be online.
First of all, let’s talk about the upfront cost. To register a domain name
(I’ll discuss this more later) it costs about $20 and then for roughly $20 per
month you can have a working website (imagine - www.yourname.com), available
to anyone in the world with internet access.
That's almost cheaper than buying that new CD that you wanted or a few trips
to your favourite fast food joint. (Yes, you can afford it!) There are also
some ways of getting lower prices than those mentioned above (or even a free
site - still residing at www.yourname.com), but instead of working-out ways
to save $2 or $3 let’s learn all those weird internet terms first.
There are 3 basic components required to building a personal, custom website.
You need:
- A domain name
- A hosting account
- Content written in HTML or some other web language.
So let’s begin learning about these three basic components.
